Styling your home for Spring

There is something so special about Spring in the English countryside when the light starts to soften and you can begin to open the windows and let that sunshine in.
Spring doesn't need to be about big restyles - it can be about small rituals and simple changes. Here is our English country-inspired Spring to-do list to make your house feel like a home.

Buy a Bag of Mini Eggs (Strictly for Decorating…)

A bowl of speckled chocolate eggs scattered along a dresser or popped into a favourite ceramic dish instantly brings that nostalgic Easter charm. Why not try one of our new hen ceramic ones - perfect for mini eggs. Or tuck a handful of pastel eggs beside one of our potted primroses, dot them along a mantelpiece or scatter them down the centre of a spring table. (And if a few go missing during “styling” we won’t tell!)

Plan Your Easter or Spring Table

Spring entertaining in the countryside doesn't need to be about perfection. The most simple tables with mismatched plates, a jug of garden flowers, and candles lit even if the sun is shining. A simple roast or a homemade tart.
Why not try:
  • Tying pretty handblocked napkins with ribbon or twine
  • A few little quails eggs or one of our new hen toast racks nestled amongst greenery
  • Small pots of bulbs or a simple bud vase with seasonal blooms dotted along the table
  • Little handwritten placards or vintage style Easter tags for that thoughtful touch

Refresh the Kitchen with Fresh Flowers

Nothing signals Spring quite like flowers in the kitchen. A cluster of blooms in an old jug or a few snipped stems of blossom in a bud vase. Little primroses on the windowsill. It doesn’t need to be elaborate - in fact, the simpler the better.

Open the Windows on the First Warm Day

This might be my favourite ritual of all - that first properly warm afternoon when you can throw open the windows and hear birdsong drifting in - heaven! Spring cleaning can be simple - sometimes just some fresh air, a plumped cushion or a new candle burning on the dresser is all you need.

Restyle a Shelf for the New Season

You don’t need new furniture to welcome Spring - just a little rearranging. Add a little rabbit ornament or some pretty painted eggs to your shelf. Introduce some fresh greenery and layer heights and textures.
Why not try:
  • Some potted bulbs or herbs
  • A pretty candlestick with one of our handpainted candles
  • A touch of whimsy (a hen, a bunny or a little something that makes you smile)
  • A pretty box of vintage inspired matches

Plan a Slow Sunday Bake

Few things feel more English country than something baking in the oven on a Sunday. My favourites are a lemon drizzle or an apple and blackberry pie. I really enjoyed making this cute goose design last Spring and it definitely brings a little joy to a Spring table.

Start a Small Herb Pot or Windowsill Garden

You don’t need acres of land to embrace country living - just a windowsill. Plant parsley, basil or mint in one of our pretty fluted terracotta pots or planters.

The Beauty of Seasonal Living

At So Souk we believe homemaking is not about trends - it’s about creating a home that reflects the rhythm of the seasons and the comfort of English country life. So this season, rather than rushing to redecorate or overhaul why not try something a little softer and let your home wake up slowly this Spring.
